Author's Note
Andrew Maitland wasn’t always the deadly, conniving spymaster he ultimately became. In 1811, when Lord Difficult is set, he’s 24 and yet to come into his own. Here you’ll see a younger Maitland and the good vs evil war waging inside him. You could call Lord Difficult a prequel. I prefer to think of it as a clue to the man you’ll get to know better in the next series book — a dark hero, likely beyond redemption but not beyond hope.
